The Club still has one Charter Member, Jack Logan, and three life members - Jack Logan, Bob Collins and Mike Collins.
The Grey Warbler was chosen as the Club emblem. This beautiful little song bird was abundant in the Wainuiomata Valley.
In 1973, the Wainuiomata Club Chartered the Riddiford Lions Club which, in turn, Chartered the
Riddiford Lioness Club in 1985. This Club has since become the Lions Club of Pencarrow.
Wainuiomata Chartered a Leo Club (1976) and a Pakeke Club (1985). Regretably, these two Clubs have handed back their charters.
PROJECTS
Over the years Wainuiomata Lions have undertaken many projects
- from the very large helping groups and communities to the small projects helping needy individuals.
The projects have included:- Building pensioner housing
- Many many donations to local, national and international causes
- Presentation of a four
wheel drive bush fire-engine, "jaws of life", air-lift bags and defibrillator to the local volunteer fire brigade
- Painting and decorating houses, laying concrete paths
- Installing a location guide at the entrance to Wainuiomata
- Donation of a Foetal Heart Monitor and electrocardiograph to the local medical centre
- A minibus for the IHC, and childrend's car seats for plunket
- Glass recycling
- Supplying furniture and appliances for many local groups
- A toilet block for the Rimutaka Forest Park
- A thirty year association with the local secondary school by donating a dux prize
- A major project run over 10 years was the Orongorongo Mountain Bike Classic. It is
unfortunate that logging the trees in the forest has forced the cancellation of this project.
